With AI Displaying Its Talent, Ulit Launches a New Signal Controller Simulating Civilian Police Commanding Functions

2018 Smart China Expo opens today. As the representative of southwest intelligent transportation industry, Chongqing Ulit Science&Technology Co., Ltd participates in the exhibition and technology demonstration. In the Smart China Expo, Ulit shows more intelligent traffic signal control system and urban intelligent traffic integrated control platform which can be perceived, controlled and adjusted at any time.    

There are 46 personnel in Ulit R&D center (Research and Development center), in which there are 7 doctors and masters, and 5 mathematical talents. As one of the National High-tech Enterprises and the leading enterprise of National Information  Industry Base, Ulit has acquired more than 30 patents of invention and utility model, owning 24 software copyrights at the same time. From 2010, Ulit has been putting 10% of our annual sales into R&D every year, and almost 60,000,000 yuan has been put into R&D in total.

Simulating police commanding, the controller is more intelligent

Displayed in Ulit science & technology hall, GJK-8 traffic signal controller is the outcome of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission “Green Wave Linkage Dynamic Control Demonstration Project of Chongqing Main Districts Arteries” .  Wang Ran the chairman of Ulit states that the signal controller is a high-tech product. It has owed several patents and its technology level is in the leading position in China. The design follows the design philosophies of instrumentation, intelligentizing, modularization and humanization, applying to all kinds of traffic signal control in different application scenarios like common intersections, merge-joint ramps, variable lanes, bus traffic priority and guard route.          

During this Smart China Expo, Ulit participates in two great technology shows, I-VISTA automatic driving car challenge and acclimatized city traffic signal control system. Cooperating with China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd, Ulit installed vehicle and road coordination signal controllers on the lanes of automatic driving challenge at the end of 2017 and the debugging is finished. The controller can broadcast wirelessly the signal situation of traffic lights to the equipments in the roadside and automatic driving vehicles, and realize interaction. This kind of controllers are also adopted by Chongqing Vehicle Testing Institute to be installed in testing areas of automatic driving vehicles so that the interaction between automatic driving vehicles and signals can be realized.

What is acclimatized city traffic signal control system? Chongqing is a mountain city with a lot of bridges. The special geographical feature of a huge height drop causes that a large number of vehicles are passing one bridge always. Too many turnplates and intersection congestion also affect the traffic. How to connect the urban traffic features with intelligentizing closely? Based on this, multi-lane merging signal control system is created as the nation’s first. In this system, traffic lights are installed for multiple lanes. Through monitoring the traffic flow, it adjusts and controls the releasing time to make sure the order of multi-lane merging and relieves traffic pressure.             

Besides, Ulit is always improving and upgrading the competitive product GJK-8 centralized coordinated traffic signal controller. The controller can operate virtual detectors remotely, finish remote control function, use graphical signals to control logical scripting language and finish all kinds of hybrid layered cooperative control functions with background control system such as self-adaption, area coordination, exit congestion and bus traffic priority.         

What the most important is that GJK-8 has realized mathematical logic operation. Possessing preliminary AI (artificial intelligence) simulation capability, the controller can simulate the scenario that policemen command traffic on scene. To realize the function, complete intelligent sensory ability is requested firstly by laying detectors at every entrance and exit of each lane at the intersections to acquire overall traffic conditions. Secondly, overall mathematical logic operation capability is also needed so that the controller can process all the perceived traffic conditions, rapidly calculate phase recombination methods and select the most suitable combination method to enhance the traffic capability of the intersections, making sure the traffic is orderly and smooth even when the traffic flow is highly saturated. To sum up, on condition that there are complete perception means in every direction of the intersections, the controller can analyze and calculate the perceived data to decide how to arrange traffic light release of every direction.

Seamless software and hardware joint, more complete integrated commanding system

As a national high-tech enterprise, Ulit has constructed several model system integration projects of traffic integrated control platform in Chongqing. The traffic integrated management platform independently researched and developed by Ulit is the highlight and key point product of this Smart China Expo.
